How Gestalt Therapy can Help

Gestalt therapy is a humanistic and experiential form of therapy that invites you to be in the present moment, in a safe and holding environment with your therapist, allowing emotional struggles, personal issues, and debilitating patterns to surface, be acknowledged, and be explored during the therapy session.

Making the first step to seek therapy could be one of the hardest but most rewarding choices you can make. It is the first step towards understanding yourself and your emotions with the goal of healing and becoming the best version of yourself.

Common struggles that cause emotional pain and personal distress include the following.

Together, we can formulate a plan and start a process to ease your difficulties and help you gain control of your thoughts and emotions in a grounding and safe environment.

Anxiety

The feeling of anxiety and the thoughts and sensations it brings with it can cause emotional distress and malfunction in important areas of one’s life.  Through Gestalt therapy, you will be guided to recognise these feelings and sensations, acknowledge where they are coming from and what they are trying to express, while learning how to become more grounded and reframe unwanted thoughts and patterns.

2

Depression

Depression alters your mood, leaves you feeling sad, tired, hopeless, and helpless, and hinders you from engaging in your daily activities. Through Gestalt therapy, you will find a safe space to feel seen and understood, recognise your feelings, and discover ways to make sense of them and express them. Through this therapeutic process, you can find your way towards healing and resuming daily activities with more tranquillity and satisfaction.

3

Trauma

Trauma resurfaces in the present in various forms, such as anxiety, fear, anger, sadness, relational issues, feelings of insecurity and hopelessness, difficulty concentrating, and other physical and emotional symptoms. This can cause an inability to function and feel fulfilled in certain situations. Gestalt therapy will provide a safe space to explore trauma-related issues and how they are manifesting in the present. Through awareness, mindfulness, work on unfinished business, and other proven Gestalt techniques, you will begin to regain control of yourself, reformulate mental patterns and their physical responses, and move towards healing.

Panic Attacks

Gestalt therapy can help you explore safely through grounding, mindfulness, and embodiment, the onset of panic attacks, their triggers and underlying causes. Understanding these triggers and becoming aware of their impact, while learning how to manage these emotions safely, will help reduce their effects.

5

Feeling Overwhelmed

When feeling overwhelmed, Gestalt therapy gives you space to explore where this is coming from and helps you see new possibilities and choices that will enable you to move away from unnecessary expectations and unhealthy cycles. Gaining awareness can be a great step to regaining balance and relief.

Youth's Welbeing

Through my experience with youths, both neurotypical and neurodivergent, I have seen that they often feel judged and misunderstood. As a result, it may take time for them to establish a trusting relationship with an adult who can help them.  Through my years of work in the educational field and my therapy work with young people, I feel that I have gained substantial skills to see and understand their pain and the issues young people bring along. I can offer them a safe space to feel seen and acknowledged and explore what is keeping them back.  Amongst many themes that young people bring to therapy, common issues are feeling overwhelmed, lack of self-confidence, issues with friends and significant others, and conflicts with personal identity.
